This study uses a simulation as a vehicle for social networks research application in healthcare. More than 300 graduating MBA students participated in the creation of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), simulating a healthcare industry. Our results suggest that organizations positioning themselves at pivotal points within the ACOs' network outperform organizations that do not. The findings show the applicability of network theory and the use of simulations in the study of ACOs.
